A Claddagh Ring is a traditional ring from Ireland that features a heart held by two hands with a crown on top. Being of Irish descent, I have always wanted to have a Claddagh ring for my wedding band. Unfortunately, silicone rings are more functional in my line of work. So I decided to design my own ring.
I began by sculpting the ring in a 3D Design program called ZBrush. Then I was able to get the design printed in plastic at a nearby 3D printer. I sanded down and polished plastic to get a smooth finish before making a mold out of silicone. Unfortunately, the release agent malfunctioned, and the ring became bonded with the mold permanently. I tried several other methods to make a mold, but the ring ended up being too small for an accurately reproduction.
